Let me

I was sitting on the floor against the wall in one of the bedrooms, I don't really care which one.

"Melissa?" Carl walked into the room.

"Yea?" I asked, wiping a tear away.

"Why didn't you tell me about your mom?" He asked softly. I shrugged.

"I don't know... It just... It's just that it hurts to talk about... I don't really tell anyone about her... Not even Kayla... Only very few people know about my mother." I nodded. He hugged me.

"You know you can tell me anything, right?" He whispered. I nodded.

"I miss my dad...he said he would always be here for me... But he's not. I don't even know if he will be again..." I sighed. I looked up at Carl. He nodded.

"C'mon, let's go eat." He said, changing the subject for my sake. I smiled.

"What do we have?" I asked, standing up.

"Canned peas, canned corn, canned peaches, canned cans." Carl chuckled.

"So basically anything that's canned, we've got it?" I chuckled. Carl nodded.

"Yep." Carl smirked. I chuckled and walked downstairs.

"I'll have... Canned peaches. I'm not really in the mood to start a fire to cook anything." I shrugged.

"Coming right up." Carl grabbed two cans of peaches, tossing me one. I thanked him and opened it. I ate it quickly.

"I think I'm gonna go hunting. I'd like to have some deer or something instead of canned stuff." I chuckled.

"I'm gonna go search some houses. Take your gun." Carl called out. I took my gun out of my holster and waved it in the air, showing him that I had it.

I walked into the woods, my knife held tightly in my hand. I heard rustling in the bushes. I quickly turned around, plunging my knife in the walkers skull.

"Woah..." A voice mumbled. I jumped and turned around, seeing a guy and a girl, both around my age.

The girl had long, blonde hair, green eyes, and a few freckles along her cheeks. She was carrying a crowbar and a knife. She was wearing a camo tank top and light blue ripped jeans.

The boy had dirty blonde hair that was more brown than blonde, hazel eyes, he was a little pale, he was carrying a hatchet, and he was wearing dark jeans and a black sweater.

"Who are you?" I asked, aiming my gun at them. They both put their hands up.

"I-I'm Amanda, and this," she pointed to the guy, "this is Cory."

"How old are you two?" I asked.

"Were both around sixteen, almost seventeen years old. how old are you?" Cory asked.

"I'm Melissa. I'm fifteen. What do you want?" I asked.

"Do you have a camp? Can we stay with you?" Amanda asked.

"First I have to ask you a few questions, then you talk to our leader once he wakes up."

"Shoot." Cory said.

"How many walkers have you killed?" I asked, remembering ricks questions that he asked every time someone new came into the group.

"Uhm... To many." Cory chuckled. I glared at him and he stopped.

"How many people have you killed?" I asked, stepping closer to them.

"None... Yet." Cory snickered. I shot him another glare.

"Why?" The final question.

"Well we haven't had to." Amanda answered. I nodded and put my gun down.

"As long as you don't kill any of us, you can stay. But we have a choice in weather you stay or not. If worse comes to worse, we can choose if you live or not. Got it?" I asked. They nodded.

"Okay. Come on." I began to walk.

"I can't believe were taking orders from a fifteen year old." Cory mumbled.

"A fifteen year old who can kill you in less than a second." I said and he shut up.

We walked out of the woods and I saw Carl walking back to the house.

"Carl!" I half-shouted. He turned around and began to walk over to us.

"Who's this?" He asked.

"That's Amanda and that's Cory." I said. "They need somewhere to stay, so I brought them here." I said. He looked at them.

"Can I talk to you for a second, Melissa?" Carl said and pulled me away.

"What?" I asked.

"They can't stay, Melissa!"

"Why not, Carl?" I crossed my arms.

"Remember Matthew? We can't let random people join us, especially when my dad's the way he is and when were alone!" He whispered.

"Fine, it's on you to tell two seventeen year olds that they can't stay." I raised an eyebrow. He sighed.

"Cory, they don't want us here. Let's go! We can survive fine. We don't have any more than they do." I heard Amanda say. I sighed and looked at Carl.

"I'm sorry guys... We just don't have any room for any more people. We just can't let anyone in at the moment. You two should go. We don't have much anyways, well just slow you down. I'm sorry." I said still looking at Carl. I heard them start to walk away, before I couldn't hear their footsteps anymore.i glared at Carl.

"You might as well of just murdered them." I spat and walked off, hugging my dad's angel wing vest around my body.

"Melissa..." Carl sighed.

"Amanda! Cory! Wait!" Carl yelled. I turn around and saw him running to Amanda and Cory.

"You two can stay. We... We'll figure something out..." He said. I smiled.

"Thanks, man. That means a lot." Cory smiled. Carl just nodded and walked away. I rolled my eyes.

"How about we clear this house beside ours so you guys can stay there. You've got no more than us... We just can't have anyone staying with us till we get things cleared up with our leader." I said.

"And when will that be?" Cory asked.

"Whenever the hell he decides to wake up."

+++

"You clear a house for those two?"

"Yep" I mumbled as I fiddled around with my pocket knife.

"Come on, Melissa... I let them stay with us!"

"After I guilted you into it!" I argued back. He rolled his eyes.

"I'm trying everything I can here! I don't want you or my dad getting hurt! Especially when we've made it this far!"

"I don't really see any problem in that anymore..." I mumbled, looking back down at my knife.

"What the hell?! You think getting hurt and dying is better than surviving?! How long have you been thinking that?!"

"Since the beatings got worse. Since my friends left because I was a freak. Since people started dying more and more. I thought that surviving was the best thing to do but now... I sometimes wish that I died the day I stabbed myself. Remember that?! I sure as hell do. I regret not putting it thought my head and just ENDING IT! I should have because this world is shit! Im just used to getting hurt because that's all that fucking happened to me at home. I just... When I saw Amanda and Cory... I knew... I knew that maybe... Maybe there was- was just a little hope. Hope that all humanity isn't roaming around, dead and eating human flesh. Sending them away... That's just as bad a murdering them. They don't even have many weapons... I mean, our group can include just two more, right?" I looked at Carl. His fists were clenched and he had an angry- but worried- look in his eyes.

"What did she do to you?" Carl asked.

"What-"

"What. Did. She. Do. To. You? Show me." Carl demanded. I nodded and slightly lifted up my shirt, showing the scar that went from my hip to my mid-stomach.

"Cut me with a piece of glass." I said. I let the shirt fall back down. I sighed.

"Gave me beatings on my face, stomach, legs, basically anywhere... I had to go to the hospital a bunch of times because of things she would do to me." I said. I stood up and turned around so that my back was facing him. I lifted up my knotty hair, showing him another scar on the back of my neck.

He ran a finger over the huge scar. "What did she-"

"Pushed me into a fence. The fence was metal and there was a piece not in place... With my luck, I cut my neck... It hurt like hell, but hey, I couldn't have done anything. I was only... Naïve." I shrugged and turned around.

"I was never allowed to put my hair up after that. I didn't understand why, though. I mean, 'it's just a scar'... That's what I always told my dad." I chuckled at the memories of me and my dad's pointless arguments. "But as I got older, I'm glad. People would have asked what happened, and my dad must not have wanted me to tell. I was only about seven, I think... I'm not sure." I put my knife back in my boot, then looked at Carl.

"That's why this world is great. I see a walker, I take out my anger on it. Killing it. Nothing illegal anymore, not that killing flesh eating monsters would count as illegal." I added.

"Actually no, the world isn't great... No. It's... It has it's pros and cons. Pro: I get to help save the world" I joked, earning a slight chuckle from Carl. "I also would never have met you if the world was normal." I poked his nose and chuckled. "I... I never would have met any of you, to be exact."

"I'm glad I met you too" he smiled. I grinned.

"Cons: not enough food."

"True" Carl agreed.

"Always in constant fear. That feeling of knowing you're never safe. Always having to sleep with one eye open. No more pizza." I continued.

"I think you get it." I nodded. Carl chuckled and nodded, pulling me in for a hug.

"Let's introduce ourselves to Amanda and Cory." Carl said.

"Sure."

+++

"Well, I was split up from my original group. I was with them since this started." Amanda started.

I remembered how Edwin said he was at the CDC since this started.

"You were the first one I let in here."

"Since this started?"

"Since this started."

I was snapped back to reality when I heard Amanda speak again.

"I found them... But they weren't them... They were walkers. I of course had to kill them. Some of this's people were real bastards. Rapists, mainly. I had to run. I found Cory, he was alone since the beginning. We've been surviving together for about three years." Amanda explained.

"What 'bout you?" Cory asked, looking at me.

"Well... I was alone when I first found out. My dad was gone out, probably getting his brother out of jail or something... I was thirteen I think... Anyways, I ran to the CDC, it took days. I found my dad, and Carl and the group. We escaped the CDC before it... Exploded, taking two people." I sighed. "I blacked out, woke up at a farm. We met three more people who are a part..of..our...group..." I said. I looked down.

"Two." I corrected myself. "Only two now,"

"We stayed at the farm for a while. Carl was shot, my dad fell down a cliff, got stabbed with an arrow, and got shot in the head... So we kinda had to. We left when it got overrun. We found a prison. We made it a home. Everything happened there." I looked at Carl and sighed. "Until a man named Philip, or the governor, came and killed people and blew everything up. He killed... Someone... And we had to leave. I got split up from the whole group. I found Carl, and now were here." I shrugged.

"I guess you can say your life was pretty eventful, huh?" Cory chuckled at his joke. I looked up and glared at him. Amanda nudged him, telling him to shut up.

"No. You know what?! Screw you two! You act like you've been through hell and back, but you've had a damn group to save your asses! I had nobody! Amanda here had to kill her whole group after they turned! Screw off!" Cory yelled. He slightly raised his arm and I flinched. Carls eyes grew wide as he pulled me slightly away from them.

"What's wrong, Hun? Scared of a little beating?" He chuckled.

"CORY!" Amanda screamed.

"God, I'm sorry Amanda..." I mumble as I run up to Cory and punched him in the face.

"Melissa!" Amanda screamed. I swiftly turn around and stare at Amanda.

"What?" I asked.

"Let me." She smirked.
