I'll try.
"He just passed out. Should be fine, but there's a good chance that he's in a coma, but there's also a chance that he isn't, a coma is more likely to happen, though." Hershel said. My body started to shake slightly and I closed my eyes, letting the tears flow. I fell to the ground. Rick had to leave the room before he broke down even more.
I backed up so my back was against the wall and I brought my knees to my chest. My dad came and rested his hand on my knee.
"Hey,hey,hey... Don't cry, babygirl..." He whispered.
"He-he-he...what if he..."
"He won't die. He's gonna be okay, I promise." I looked up at him. "I never break a promise." He smiled. I took a breath and nodded my head. I stood up and hugged him.
"I'm gonna go kill walkers" I said. He nodded and I walked out of the infirmary.
"Melissa?" Rick called. I hurried over to his cell, which was only two away from mine.
"Yea?"
"How's he doing? Is he okay?" He was referring to Carl.
"Uh... Like Hershel said, he should be fine. But nothing has changed since you've left the room. He's okay." I tried not to sound like I was trying to convince myself that.
"Can you take Judith for me? I have watch duty." Yea, rick finally started paying attention to his daughter. It's about damn time, rick.
I nodded my head and took Judith from ricks arms and left the cell.
"Well, looks like I'm not killing walkers anymore, huh?" I said in a baby voice to Judith. She giggled and started waving her hands around. I smiled. She had bright blue eyes like both rick and Carl, and her smile reminded me of Lori. I don't know where she got the blonde hair from, because rick, Lori and Shane all didn't have blonde hair. Yea, we don't know if this baby is Shane's or ricks. It would make more sense if it was ricks baby, because she was married to the guy, and because they're eyes are identical, and because She does look a little like rick... But if I look close enough, I can see some of that idiot Shane, too.
I ran a finger over my cheek and felt a scar from that day at the farm where Shane punched me in the face after killing walkers from the barn. I remember my dad being the first to punch his face in, and Lori being the first to help me. I smiled at that memory. It was about damn time someone taught him a lesson.
"Hello..? Melissa..?" Beth waved her hand in front of my face. I looked up from Judith, who was now playing with my hair, and looked at Beth.
"Yea? Um.. What?" How long was she trying to get my attention.
"It's Carl-"
"He's awake?!" My face light up. She shook her head slowly. I frowned.
"No, he's been saying your name for a few minutes, we don't know what to do. I'll take Judith, go in with Carl. Daddy says that he might be waking up soon." I nodded my head and gave Judith to Beth.
I hurried over to the infirmary, and sure enough, carl was saying my name and a few other things that I couldn't really hear.
"Melissa...no...help...please..." He was whispering. I rushed over to him.
"Don't touch her!" He yelled loud enough for everyone in the room to hear (which was only me, him, Hershel and Maggie). It made me jump, scaring me. I could tell there was pain in his voice, and he sounded scared.
"Carl, Carl I'm right here. I'm okay, you're okay. You just gotta wake up. Please." I grabbed his hand.
"I'm...sorry..." He whispered, probably still dreaming. I let go of his hand and started fidgeting around with my fingers, a nervous habit of mine. Everyone left the room.
A couple minutes later, he shot up in the bed, panting, and there were tears running down his face.
"Melissa! Melissa!" He looked around the room. I stood up and rushed over to him and grabbed his hand.
"I'm right here, Carl. I'll always be here, Carl. It was just a dream. It was only a dream." He looked at me and cried, pulling me into a tight hug.
"I love you. I love you." He whispered.
"I love you, too" I cried.
"They-they took you... They took me...th-they hurt you, they made me watch... I couldn't save y-you... You were g-gone..." He cried.
"I'm here and alive. It was just a dream."
"Why am I in the infirmary?" Carl asked when Hershel walked into the room, not letting go of me.
"You were shot. The bullet almost hit your lung. It just missed anything important. You were supposed to be in a coma, but I guess not." Hershel said. Carl nodded.
"Let me go get rick and the others." Hershel said. Carl pulled out of our hug and nodded.
Once Hershel left the room, he unexpectedly pulled me into a kiss.
"I missed you, my angel." I smiled.
"That's honestly such a corny nickname... But I love it." I laughed. He moved over on the bed so that I could sit on it. As soon I sat down, rick and the others ran in. Rick hugged Carl as if he would disappear if he ever let go. I don't blame him, Carl is really one of the only things rick cares about anymore (besides Judith).
"Told ya." My dad whispered. I playfully glared at him and crossed my arms.
"Ya need to stop almost dying." Rick chuckled, but he was also serious.
"I'll try." Carl smiled.
