Bit.

"HEY! HEY OVER HERE!" We yelled. Rick, dad, Maggie, Glenn, and t-dog went to go find a way into the prison and kill walkers on the other side of the fence. We're trying to distract the walkers so that they can get inside.

I was standing between Carl and Beth, yelling at and killing walkers from the safe side of the fence. Yes, I'll admit that I am scared for my dad, but he's tough. Us dioxins know how to fight and how to survive in this world.

"I don't see them, do you see them?" Lori walked over to carol.

"Back there. Over there." Carol pointed to some place near the back of the prison. The rest was just a blur. The five came back after clearing out some of the prison and led us around a cell block.

"Clear out any others?" I asked, referring to the cell blocks.rick shook his head no.

"Just this one." I nodded and we all walked into different cells. Rick, dad, Hershel, Maggie, t-dog, Glenn and I are gonna go clear out the other cell blocks, try to find the infirmary and get food from the cafeteria, probably all at once. I had to beg my dad to let me come. Hershel is coming, so why shouldn't I be bake to? I mean, I've survived in my own for a while now, why can't I fight if a couple walkers and help bring food and medical supplies back to the cell block were at now? My dad agreed to let me come, but I can tell he's still unsure about me coming, but I'll be fine.

We walked over to a table with helmets, bullet-proof vests and other things that I guess the guards or someone would wear. I don't really know.

"Hershel, Lori needs you for a sec.' Carol ran up to Hershel.

"Everything alright?" Rick asked. Carol nodded as her and Hershel walked back to where loris cell was.

I looked over my shoulder and saw Carl putting on a helmet that was way to big for him. He looked at me and smiled, trying not to laugh. I chuckled and rolled my eyes. I looked at his hair, that was now past his ears, that was now really messy from the helmet falling off his head and his cheeks were red from embarrassment, or trying to to laugh.

Man, he's hot.

What?

No.

Stop.

What was I thinking?! He's my best friend, I don't like him... Besides, my dad would never let me date Carl. I wish though.

Ugh, stop! He doesn't even like me back, we're only friends and that's how it's gonna stay. I don't like Carl. I don't like Carl. I don't like Carl.

"No. You're staying here." Rick told Carl.

"Why?" Carl whined.

"It's to dangerous. You have to stay here and protect the others." Rick said. Carl slightly smiled.

"Why does Mel get to go?" He asked. I sighed. I'm not gonna be able to go now. My dad's gonna change his mind because Carl wants to go because I'm going. Ugh.

"Because her father said she can. But I'm your father and you can't go. Not this time." Rick sighed. Everyone but rick went ahead, towards the other cell blocks. I stood by my dad, the two of us holding up our crossbows in front of us.

Rick caught up to us and we all walked together down the dark, long halls of the prison. We turned a corner and heard moans and growling. Rick out up a hand, signalling us to stop walking. Duh, rick.

We saw a bunch of walkers turn the corner, following us. We turned back around and started running, only to be stopped by more walkers. We panicked and turned a corner, this time no walkers were there.

"GOGOGO!" Maggie yelled. We ran past a door and a turn right beside it, as we heard walkers behind us. We outran them, and stopped to breath.

"Where Maggie and Glenn?!" I asked, noticing they were gone. They were just here before the walkers came when we passed that door.

"We have to go back." Hershel said, rather calmly for a situation like this,p. rick nodded and we ran back. We went through the corner we had just passed, and started yelling their names.

Me and Hershel heard Maggie yelling out for us. We turned around and ran back. We were walking over dead walkers sitting against the walls. I ran a little faster than Hershel. I saw Maggie and Glenn ahead of us, walking towards us. I smiled.

I heard Hershel's screams of pain. Maggie and Glenn came running and I ran back to Hershel. A walker was biting into his leg. I screamed and shot the walker in the head. The rest of the group (besides the ones who didn't come) ran back to us.

"A walker bit him!" I yelled. Maggie was crying as Glenn was attempting to comfort her. Rick and my dad picked Hershel up and we ran into the closest room. It was the cafeteria.

"What do we do?" T-dog asked. Rick shook his head, as if we was trying to say ' I don't know, but I don't wanna say it'

I but my koi and sighed. "We have to cut his leg off. It's the only way. We have to do it and we have to do it now." I shut my eyes.

I looked at rick and saw him taking out his pick axe. I walked over to my dad and held his arm. I saw rick stick the pick axe into Hershel's leg. He's awake, he can feel the pain. I gasped and covered my eyes by burying my face in my dad's arm.

I felt my dad's arm move and pick up his crossbow. I looked at what he was walking towards. It was a few men in prisoner uniforms. Their eyes were wide and they were staring at rick and Hershel.

"He's bleeding out!" Maggie yelled. I looked at Hershel and his lower leg was no longer there. We picked Hershel up and carried him to cell block C.

"Guys! Guys! Hershel was bit! He's bleeding out!" I yelled. Everyone ran over. Lori and carol rushed over and wrapped towels are pound his leg, attempting to stop the bleeding.

"We need gauze... Some antibiotics... Did you guys get to the infirmary yet?" Carol asked. I shook my head. She sighed.

"Rick... Um... The prisoners are here... Daryl's out with them." Glenn walked over to rick. Rick and Glenn started to walk out of the cell, when rick stopped him.

"You need to be in there with Maggie," rick said.

"But I-"

"Somethin' happens, you have to be there with her. I got this." Glenn nodded at rick. I looked back at Hershel.

"What happened?" Carl asked, walking up to me.

"We were walking over a bunch of dead walkers... Well, we thought they were dead... One grabbed him and bit him. He can't die, so I-I..." I shut my eyes and took a breath.

"I told them to- to chop his leg off." I gulped. "It-it was the only way, right? This was the only way he could live, r-right?" I walked out of the cell so nobody eels could hear me or see me crying.

"It was the only way, Mel. You were right. He won't die, and he's gonna be alive because of you."

"What if he's not..." I croaked. "What if he's dead?!" I sobbed. Carl shook his head and hugged me. In a friendly way, nothing else. I hugged him back.

"Hershel's tough. He's alive. He's gonna survive." Carl said.

"Say he does, then he needs crutches and he only has one leg. He' not gonna be able to run and that's all we ever do," I shrugged my shoulders and shook my head, biting my lip and still crying. "What happens then?" I broke the hug and looked at Carl.

"I don't know. But we'll figure something out. He's gonna be okay." Carl reassured me. I nodded and a small smile formed on my face.

"Right. You're right. I'm gonna go clear out the cells, get the dead walkers out." I smiled. Carl nodded and I walked past all the empty cells. Wow, Carl fell for that.

All the cells are already empty, I just didn't want to be near Hershel's cell right now. I didn't want to have a breakdown in front of everyone. I took a couple deep breaths and stopped crying. I bit my lip and nodded to myself. He's gonna be okay. He would have died either way, anyways. He was bit, we're saving him. It was the only way to help him survive. I smiled and rolled my eyes.

"Hey guys! Look what I've got!" Carl said. I walked downstairs. He had a duffel bag full of mess and gauze.

"Where's you get all this?" Lori asked.

"The infirmary. Cool, huh?" He smiled proudly.

"You went alone?!" Lori was shocked. "You could have gotten hurt!"

"I wanted to help!"

"This," Lori pointed to Hershel. "This happened with the whole group." She stated.

"But I'm fine!" Carl yelled, I stood back and watched the two argue. Carl was angry, as loris face softened.

"I appreciate you doing this but-"

"THEN STAY OFF MY BACK!" Carl screamed, making me flinch.

"Carl, you can't talk to your mom like that." Beth quietly told Carl.

"Carl, thank-" before Lori, could finish, Carl stormed off. I still stood there, looking at Lori with shock of what just happened. Lori seemed upset, hurt, and disappointed, not in Carl, but in herself. I would never dare yell at my mom like that or else I would get beaten, carls lucky his mother loves him and cares about him.

"Dammit, Carl" I whispered as I walked towards the direction of Carl.
