2. Im a dixon

VERY LIGHTLY UPDATED

A weight seemed to float off my shoulders when I finally arrived at the military. I hoped my dad would be there with Kayla and her family. That we'd all be together.

I ran up to the military base, but something was wrong.

There were those monsters everywhere. My eyes went wide as I stared at the lifeless people walking around. My eyes watered.

Kayla.

I felt tears roll down my face as I walked away from the camp. Everyone in there must be dead.

What do I do now? What else is there to go to?

I'm Melissa Dixon. I can figure something out. Daryl Dixon is my father and he's the toughest man I know... What would dad do?

"The CDC!" I yelled. I jumped up and ran. I made my way into the downtown area of the city, sneaking through the streets. I turned a corner and was met with a huge group of the dead ones.

"Agh, shit!" I whispered. I ran in the other direction. I ran into one and it toppled me onto the ground. I screamed and tried to push it off me, but he was too heavy. It's teeth were dangerously close to my face and I had nothing to do. I grabbed a piece of shattered glass and stabbed it into its neck. It didn't stop. My eyes went wide and I screamed, stabbing it again, still not giving up. I squeezed my eyes shut and sent the glass into his head, finally feeling him stop and fall onto me. I felt my chest tighten, realizing what I just did, but I quickly pushed the dead-again man off of me and stood up.

I looked down at the man I had killed, feeling sick. I looked down at my bloody clothes and hunched over, puking. I wiped my mouth and stood up straight, grabbing my things. I felt tears fall down my face at the thought of what I just did.

"I'm sorry." I whispered before looking at the other dead that were rushing to get to me. I took one last look at the dead man and ran.

Daryl's POV

I drove home as fast as possible. I heard about the outbreak and I still left Melissa alone.

I pulled up to the house and ran inside, my heart pounding.

"Melissa!" I screamed. I ran upstairs and downstairs but she wasn't there.

"Melissa!" I screamed once more. I slammed my fist on the wall and ran into the kitchen. There was a piece of paper laying on the table. I picked it up and read it.

Daddy, I'm going to Atlanta. Kayla said it's safe there. I hope you find me soon. I'm sorry I'm leaving, but I can't stay here. I love you, daddy. Please find me.
-Melissa

"Shit!" I yelled. Atlanta is infested with the outbreak. I hurried and grabbed my crossbow and ran out of the house. I hopped on my motorcycle and drove to Atlanta.

(In Atlanta a few days later)

I found a group in the mountains. I'm staying with them. I haven't found Melissa yet and I don't think I am. I feel really bad for leaving her. Now she's probably dead or on her own out there.

"They're back!" Dale yelled. I looked and saw Glenn driving in front of a truck. Everyone who went on a run to the city came out of the truck. But something was different.

There was no Merle, and there was a sherif walking out of the drivers seat.

"DAD!" Carl yelled. Carl and Lori ran to the new guy and hugged him. I waited to see if anyone else would walk out of the truck, but nobody did.

I sighed and walked towards the man. "Where's my brother?!" I yelled.

"He was a threat so I handcuffed him to a metal pole on the roof of a building..." He trailed off.

"Lemme process this. You sayin' you cuffed my brother to a roof!" I walked towards him.

"Daryl!" Andrea yelled. I glared at the sherif and walked away.

"Walkers!"

"A horde!"

I ran back to the group and we all got into cars. I hopped on my motorcycle and we drove off.

"Where too next?" Someone asked on the walkie talkie.

"CDC. There's people and protection. We go there." Rick, the sherif, said. We drove to the CDC.

Melissa's POV

I stopped at a house for a few days. I couldn't run anymore and if my dad is at the CDC, I would find him there. I hope he's at the CDC...

"Okay, found some food, water, knifes... Let's go" I said to myself. The apocalypse started about a week ago and I've been alone since. I hope that my dad is still alive.

I left the house and ran. I saw the big CDC building in the distance and began to run.

I banged on the door frantically. There were dead ones all around.

"Help me! Please!" I shouted. "I'm just a kid! I'm gonna die out here!" I cried. I banged on the door again. "I know you're in there!" I screamed. I turned around and shot a dead one that got too close.

"I know you're in there! Please, I'm just trying to find my father!" I stood staring at the doors and felt tears in my eyes as I backed away from it.

"Please." I cried. I was about to turn away, when the doors began to open.

"Hurry!" A man shouted. I ran inside and was met with a man.

His name was edwin Jenner. He's the only scientist left here... That means there's no cure yet.

He showed me to a room and let me get some sleep. I didn't sleep, though. I waited to see if my daddy is coming, or if I'm just alone.

I walked into a big room with lots of computers. I saw edwin sitting alone at a desk.

"Hey" I looked at my blood-covered shoes. I looked at him and he didn't answer. I sighed. I looked around the room and my eyes locked on a big clock on the wall with red numbers counting down.

"What's that do?" I asked. "Like, what happens when it reaches zero?" I asked, not shifting my gaze away from the digital timer.

"There's really no way to explain how it works. I would, but I can't." He sighed. I nodded.

"So you live here alone?"

"Yep"

"Where's everyone else? Isn't there supposed to be a whole team working together to find a cure?"

"Everyone left. I'm the only one." He sighed. I looked back down at my blood covered shoes.

"Has anyone ever tried to get in?"

"Plenty of times. The doors can only open once more before..." He trailed off. I snapped my fingers in front of his face.

"Before what?!"

"Before they close. Forever. They won't open again. I didn't want to open them because they can only open twice, and you were the first one I let in."

"Since this started?"

"Since this started." He looked at me.

"You're surviving on your own out there?" He asked. I nodded.

"Since this started." I smiled. "My dad went to work just before this started. I don't even know where he is or if he's even alive... I miss him. A lot" I smiled at the ground. "You have no idea what it's like out there. It's horrible. You get the slightest scratch, and you die. You get bit, you die. There's no escape, ed. It's run or die out there."

He looked at me and pointed to a scar on my forehead. "Is that from out there?"

"No." I shook my head. "From my mother." I said. He looked at me, confused. I sighed. "She was a druggie. Beat me till I passed out. My dad and her divorced. She was sent to jail and I haven't seen her since. I'm pretty sure she died, but I don't know..." I looked at one if the desks. "If it makes any sense... I hope she's dead." I sighed.

"I'm sorry." He's sighed. I shook my head and smiled.

"I'm tough. I can handle it. I'm a Dixon."

"And you're alone?" He asked, breaking the tension in the air.

"Yes. I know my dad has to be alive. He's tough. He knows how to hunt. We used to go every weekend in the summer. Enough about me. What about you?"

"I don't have a family. I used to have a wife, we lived here together. She got bit. Now I'm here. Not much about me" he looked at his computer.

"People are here." He said.

"What?" I asked. He shut off a camera before I could look at the people outside. I stood up and walked in front of the doors. I stood a few feet back and shifted my weight to my right foot and crossed my arms. There's a security camera just above the door so I looked at the people. Quite a few. Two children, about ten or more people all together, from what I could see with the low quality.

"Please! We have children! You're killing us!" A man yelled. I bit my lip and shook my head. I closed my eyes and waited for them to leave. Edwin walked up to the doors and pressed a button. I opened my eyes once I heard the big doors open.

"Hurry up! Once these doors close they won't open back up!" Edwin yelled. The peopled ran inside and the doors shut.

Edwin walked away and left me there to deal with this group.

"Who are you?" I said, keeping a good poker face.

"I'm Rick," he named all of the people with him.

"Well, my name is Melissa Dixon. That man who let you survive, his name is Edwin Jenner. Welcome." I said.

"Dixon? Your name is Melissa Dixon?" A man asked. I nodded my head.

"Melissa?" I familiar voice called. I looked through the group and saw someone walk to the front of the group.

"Daddy..."
