Another home
"No! No! Let go!" Maya screeched. "I want to go back." The man wrapped his arm around her, holding her shoulders. He dragged her to the door of the building. "Stop!"
"I'm sorry, Maya, dhe thinks this would be better for you."
"I was getting better."
"Cutting yourself is not getting better."
"Let go of me." After a hard time bringing her upstairs, he got her to the door. He let go and she straightened her shirt out, looking for a moment but when the door opened, she ran ti the stairs, the mans arm catching her and lifting her up and over to Corys arms.
"It's not fair!"
"Maya, she couldn't help you."
"So you took me, she said she would help, you gave her a week." Cory ran his hand through Maya's hair before Topanga took her hand and led her in.
"Sorry." She whispered as she led her to the kitchen. Thanks for taking me."
"Well, you don't seem to want to be here."
"I don't want to risk anything. I just lost a lot, but compared to this, that was nothing."
"Don't worry, Maya, we're not giving up. And they won't take you." Maya nodded, thanked her, and let Riley lead her to her room where they sat in the window.
"Wow. Feels like forever."
"I know."
"Anything that we had, we sat here. We worked it out. And even if it took a while, it ended."
"And it will." Maya leaned against the window frame, pulling one knee up and playing with a string, not believing her.
"Welcome home, Maya." She smiled a bit. "We're sisters." Maya shook her head.
"I'm a foster kid."
"But they could adopt you."
"No." She said, sounding like it was bizarre. "I'm home because I'm with you, but this is not my life. My life will be my life."
"Won't it be better with parents?"
"Maybe down the road, Riles, but right now, I'm not ready for that."
"You miss your mom."
"Ya. But that's not what I meant."
"What did you mean."
"I'll tell you when I find out."
//
"Maya." Said Shawn, picking her off her feet in a hug after Riley. "You need to feed this girl." He said, placing her back down and pulling her beanie over her eyes. Maya pulled it back up, a small smile on her face.
"We try." Said Cory, closing the door that he had ran to to hug his friend, but it being stopped.
"Locking me out, Matthews?"
"Mr.Turner, you made it to dinner."
"Wouldn't miss it. Hi, Riley. Maya. Wait, Maya? I thought you- you know."
"She's living here." Said Topanga.
"And don't make her mad." Said Riley. Maya pushed her into the couch.
"I see."
"Oh it gets worse." Maya went to push her all the way back when Riley grabbed her hand and pulled her into the couch with her, Maya landing right next to Riley. Though not a smile, her face was not sullen as Riley began to play with Maya's bracelets. The last to arrive was George Feeny, who was in town for Thanksgiving, not very surprised to see her there, but surprised at the difference in her weight and attitude. Maya was afraid, though, trying not to pay much attention to the fact that she could easily lash out at any time with so maybe people around. She just kept her eyes from there pupils.
Suddenly, she felt a finger touch the skin on her wrist, looking to find some bracelets moved up her arm a Riley's fingers rested upon a scar of many. She tore her hand away.
"What the hell?"
"I just wanted to see."
"You could have asked."
"You would have said 'no.'"
"Then why would you still do it?"
"Sorry."
"It's fine." She turned back forward again. There was a knock.
