Sonnet IX
Sonnet IX
(Philosophy)
(Italian Sonnet)
"Concede the flesh—the spirit will resurge."
The sacrifice of Isaac should cost
The triumph of the soul, its final purge.
The loss of burden is when body's lost.
However, mind can prove itself on verge.
Thought is too delicate to be a host.
Although deprived from soul, flesh can emerge;
But soul without the flesh is just a ghost.
The constant conflict is between the notions:
Substance and soul—as mind against emotions,
A stringent plan against an instant urge.
How did I crave to be a standing foe
Of nature's law, contemptuous nature's law!—
But real consonance consists in merge.
